In the early 1990s, an eager teenage caddy at a golf course in Westchester, New York caught the eye of a certain real estate mogul named Donald J. Trump. Fast forward three decades, and that same young man is no longer watching history play out—he's helping to shape it.
I'm talking about none other than White House Deputy Chief of Staff Dan Scavino.
From the early days of the 2016 campaign to the toughest fights inside and outside the White House, Scavino has been at President Trump's side in victories and in challenges. And through it all, their mission has never wavered: to fight for this country and the people who believe in its promise.
A Journey of a Lifetime
Dan Scavino's story is truly remarkable. When I sat down with him recently, he described his 30-year association with President Trump as "the journey of a lifetime."
"I was 16 years old," Scavino recalled, "caddying, working in the bag room in the restaurant up at a golf course in Westchester that he came up to purchase."
What struck me most was how Scavino described Trump's presence even back then: "He's just a powerful leader, a powerful presence when he walks into a room and everybody out there that's been in a room with President Trump will know what I mean, even before he was president."
From golf club manager to White House power player, Scavino's transition mirrors the unexpected political journey of Trump himself. The former general manager at Trump National Westchester now serves as Deputy Chief of Staff in the White House—a testament to loyalty, dedication, and shared vision.
The Four-Year Interlude: A Necessary Pause
One of the most fascinating insights from our conversation was Scavino's perspective on the four years between President Trump's terms. While many viewed this period as a setback, Scavino sees it differently.
"I completely actually agree with that train of thought in the sense of we had a great four years when he was president and all the things he got accomplished over those four years," Scavino explained. "America got a good sense of how terrible of a job Joe Biden did. The administration, gas prices, food prices, everything through the roof. Wars breaking out everywhere."
This stark contrast, according to Scavino, made it "easy for America to say we need to make America great again and get that guy back in office."
The Social Media Revolution
Perhaps one of the most significant contributions Scavino has made to modern politics is his partnership with President Trump in revolutionizing political communication through social media.
"I think President Trump changed the entire game with social media," Scavino noted, describing how the President's approach was "completely transparent to the American people, what you see is what you get. You may like it, you may not. He's the king of social media, there's no question about it."
What many people don't know is that only two people can post on President Trump's social media accounts: the President himself and Dan Scavino. This exclusive access has given Scavino unprecedented influence in shaping the President's public messaging.
"We have a lot of fun doing it," Scavino admitted with a smile. "And if it creates problems, it creates problems. But so be it. We've worked together on this for 10 years. And we haven't changed the flow."
The West Wing Today: Operating with a Mandate
Now back in the White House with what Scavino describes as "a mandate delivered by the American people," the team is focused on fulfilling their promises.
"We're in the West Wing right now with a mandate delivered by the American people," Scavino said with evident pride. "And it's pretty awesome."
This sense of purpose and clarity stands in stark contrast to their first term, which Scavino remembers was immediately met with resistance: "I remember when we came in for the first four years and just the attacks on us relentlessly. I remember stories of, you know, Team Trump is in the White House. The first couple weeks, they don't even know where the light switches are."
A Testament to Loyalty and Vision
What makes the Trump-Scavino relationship so remarkable is its longevity and consistency. For over three decades, through business ventures, political campaigns, White House terms, and everything in between, Scavino has remained a steadfast ally.
As Scavino recounted, "No matter what, we'd be on the plane and he'd say, 'you're so lucky I took you on this journey.' And I say to him in return all the time, 'thank you, Mr. President, for taking us on this journey.'"
This mutual appreciation speaks volumes about the nature of their partnership—one built on trust, shared vision, and unwavering commitment to putting America first.
Looking Forward
After sweeping all seven swing states and winning what Scavino describes as an "electoral landslide," President Trump and his team, including the ever-loyal Scavino, are back in the White House with renewed purpose.
"He went to Washington," Scavino stated simply. "We're in the West Wing right now with a mandate delivered by the American people."
For Scavino, this return represents the culmination of a journey that began on a golf course in Westchester three decades ago—a journey that has taken him from the bag room to the West Wing, from caddy to commander, always in service to a leader and a vision he deeply believes in.
